Asplund, Garnet Reed

ASPLUND – Garnet Reed Asplund, beloved husband of Louann Asplund of  Brooks, passed away at his home on October 18th, 2000 at the age of 69  years.

Born in Taber on December 29th, 1930  he was raised in Barnwell and married Louann Bennett of Taber on November  15th, 1952. They resided in Taber for a  few years before his job with Chevron  Standard moved them to Princess for 8 years. Garnet was then transferred to Brooks until 1970 when they moved to central Alberta for 2 years before another  transfer returned them to Brooks where they have resided since. Garnett retired  in 1991 after 39 years with Chevron. He will be remembered for his love of his family, his integrity, kindness and for his talent and love of gardening. Garnett was predeceased by a daughter Karen Gee and granddaughter Halley Gee of Leduc;  parents Reed and Elva Asplund and a sister Lois DeFreeze.

He is survived and will be sadly missed by his loving family, beloved wife Louann;  children, Blake and his wife Heather of Calgary, Lee of Brooks, Laura Crapo and her  husband DeLon of Coaldale, Loy Asplund and her special friend Barry Jasman of  Brooks and Kyle and his wife Angie of Brooks; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.  Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 24th from the Church of  Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Brooks. Bishop Gary Garner officiated. Honorary  pallbearers were all of Garnet’s many friends and family. Active pallbearers were  Woody Crapo, James Asplund, Kris Gee, Mickey Asplund, Malcolm Bachand, Scott  Wissler and Barry Jasman. Interment followed at Brooks Cemetery.
