BOESEN: Sofus (Olie) Boesen died on June 11, 1988 in the Auxiliary Wing of the Brooks Health Centre at the age of 80.
He was born in November 17, 1907 in Allerslev, Denmark; the second eldest in a family of six.
He arrived in Calgary from Denmark in May of 1927 and found work on a farm near Trochu. In August of that same year he moved to Bassano to work for Bert Rose; later forming a partnership with Bert and working for Mrs. Hefflebower. In 1937 & 1938 and for several winters, he worked at Roy Smith’s garage. He bought the farm at Crowfoot in 1939 and moved there to live in 1943 after marrying Peggy Lothrop. He resided there until December 1979 when he moved to Bassano and in August 1987 he moved to the Auxiliary Hospital in Brooks.
He was predeceased by his wife Peggy in September 1948; his parents and two sisters in Denmark and parents-in-law, Elsie and “Pop” Lothrop.
He is survived by a daughter Karen and her husband Roy and three grandchildren, Roxie, Kit and Cam of Bassano, AB., one sister, Gundrum; two brothers, Soren and Aage, all of Denmark; one sister-in-law Aura Bauch and her husband of Clarkston, Wash.; two brothers-in-law, Smoky Lothrop of Crowfoot and Byron Lothrop and wife Annie of Chaplin, Sask. and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held at Knox Presbyterian Church in Bassano on Tuesday, June 14 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Hector Rose officiating. Interment followed in the Bassano Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim Munro, Peter Paetkau, Ed Yakiwchuk, David Kelly, Bruce Countryman and Doug Clark.
