Cameron – A resident of the Newell Nursing Home in Brooks for the past two years, John Cameron, died January 17 at the age of 86 years.
Born in Fifeshire, Scotland, Mr. Cameron moved to Billings, Montana in 1909 and then to Sheep Creek south of Calgary a year later. In 1911 he moved to the Bassano district and then homesteaded at Hutton, north of the Red Deer River. In 1916 he married his Scottish sweetheart, Beatrice Reid. He farmed in Hutton until 1943 when he moved to Maple Ridge, B.C., and then to the Brooks area in 1962 where he has resided since. Due to ill health, he has lived in the Newell Nursing Home for the past two years.
Mr. Cameron was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice, March 30, 1929, two grandchildren, Reid Rooke in 1953 and Barbara (Rooke) Veno in 1975.
Survivors include three daughters. Mrs. Ralph (Jean) Ferguson of Calgary, Mrs. Lionel (Nancy) Rooke of Pollockville and Mrs. Erling (Christina) Nygaard of Rolling Hills, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Madge Hoy of Perthshire, Scotland, and numerous nephews and nieces in England and Scotland.
Funeral service was held Monday, January 19 at 2:00, p.m. in Smith Memorial Chapel with Rev. C.W. Hutton officiating. Interment followed in Bassano cemetery. Pallbearers were Bradley Rooke, Murray Rooke, Dean Kramer, Lee Nygaard, Vern Lanz and Gene Foal.
