CLARE – Wiltiam George Clare of Bassano, Aberta died on January 19, 1988 at the age of 86 years.
He was born at Brampton, County of Oxford, EngIand on August 16, 1901 and came to Canaoa in 1913 with his parents and brother and farmed at Christopher Lake, Saskatchewan. They also had a saw mill on the farmstead.
He met his wife Alice in 1943, moved to B.C. in 1940 and returned to Christopher Lake the same year. After suffering a stroke he was forced to sell the farm in 1957 and moved to Acme, Alberta in 1962 and after living in various places in Alberta settled in Bassano in 1987 where he has resided since.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother William Thomas Clare.
Surviving are his wife Alice of Bassano, two sons, William and his wife Anita of Airdrie and Wilfred and his wife Lillian of St. Paul’s River, Quebec, two daughters, Dorothy and her husband Ray Schleppe of Calgary and Sandra Clare of Calgary, two step-daughters, Frances and her husband Douglas Smith of Lacombe and Pearl and her husband Ces Francavilla of Brampton, Ontario, 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held on Friday, January 22 at 2 p.m. in Knox Presbyterian Church in Bassano with the Reverend Hector Rose officiating. Interment followed in the Bassano Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were Earl Dyck and Bruce Clare. Active pallbearers were Ces Francavilla, Wilfred Clare, Greg Collee, Gerald Schleppe, Thomas Clare
and Douglas Smith.
