Enns, Jacob

ENNS – Jacob Enns, beloved husband of Betty Ann Enns of Bassano, passed away in Bassano on December 16th, 1998 at the age of 70 years.

Born in Magrath on February 24th, 1928 Jake moved to Rosemary at the age of 2 years. He resided in the community until moving to Bassano in June of 1994. As a younger man Jake worked the Diamond Mines in Yellowknife and had for a short period worked in the Oil Patch until starting his farm in Rosemary. He retired in 1991. After his wife Dorothy passed away he married Betty Ann on March 5th, 1977. Jake was very active in the Bassano Elks and had been a member of the EID Legion, Brooks. He loved to play cards with his family and friends, loved to fish, to garden and after retirement took up woodworking. He will be especially remembered for the love he had for his family, for his honesty and honor and for his sense of fairness.

Jake was also predeceased by 2 sons Walter Murray and Chris Enns, his parents and brother Jerry.

Besides his wife Betty Ann, Jake is also survived by his loving family, sons Barry McMillan and Laird McMillan; daughters Cathy Dorscheld, Ginny Enns, Isabel Hofer and her husband John, Marlene Neal, Judy Bromhead and her husband Brent, Tracy McWilliam and her husband Wayne, Natalie McMillan, Raye McMeeken and her husband Mel and Toni Bergen and her husband Bill; 19 grandchildren; 4 brothers Fred, Dave, Ted and Eric; 2 sisters Laura Dyck and Lola Neufeld and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19th from Knox Presbyterian Church, Bassano. Rev. Jake Doerksen officiated.

Honorary pallbearers were all of Jake’s many friends. Honor Guard and Fraternal Services were provided by members of the Bassano Elks Lodge. Active pallbearers were Nathan and Geoffrey Bromhead, Trevor McWilliam and Jaret, Jason and Joe Hofer. Interment followed at Bassano Cemetery.
