GALARNEAU – Alfred (Fred) Flavieux Galarneau died on July 6, 1986 at the age of 95 years.
He was born in North Dakota, U.S.A. on December 14, 1890 and moved with his dad to Idaho to homestead in 1904.
In 1908 he married Gladys Billow and in 1911 they came with his father and three brothers to Bassano. In 1914, his father, himself and three brothers homesteaded north of the Finnegan ferry and the post office was called Galarneauville for several years. In 1938, he and the family moved to Gem and in his farming years he was interested in the U.F.A., Alberta Wheat Pool and after moving to Gem took an interest in the 4-H clubs.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys, in February 1965, a son, Max, in July 1968, and a grandson, Neil, in June 1981.
Surviving are two sons, Clayton, of Bassano; and Don, of Gem; a daughter, Wanda Miller of Bassano, 17 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the Knox Presbyterian Church in Bassano and interment will take place in the Bassano Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Ron Galarneau, Gordon Galarneau, Jim Galarneau, Richard Galarneau, David Galarneau and Rick Staple.
