Galarneau, Ethel May

GALARNEAU – Ethel May Galarneau passed away on April 7th, 1992 in Bassano at the age of 81 years.

Born at Winsford, Cheshire, England, on July 7th, 1910, she came to Canada with her parents in the spring of 1911 to Bassano and homesteaded in the Berry Creek District.

Ethel received her high school in Calgary, graduated as a nurse from the Holy Cross Hospital in 1934 with her sister Florence and returned to Bassano and nursed in the Bassano Hospital.

She married on November 3rd, 1938, at Condor, Alta. residing in Gem until moving to Condor in 1941. She returned to Gem in 1950 and moved to Bassano in 1957. Ethel resumed nursing in Bassano from 1958 until retiring in 1975. She had been a member of the Bassano Pioneer Damsiters.

She was predeceased by her husband Clayton on July 31, 1987, and is survived by two sons, Ron and his wife Wilma of Gem, Gordon and his wife Eleanor of Edmonton; her daughter, Kathleen Dunn and her husband Robert of Calgary; six grandchildren, Randy and his wife Cheryl and Russell Galarneau, Norman and Jacqueline Galarneau, and Lana and Cody Dunn; her great-grandson Brady; sister-in-law Verna Bradshaw of Condor; numerous nieces and nephews and other Galarneau family members.

Funeral services were held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Bassano, on Satur­day, April 11th, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Hector Rose officiating.

Pallbearers were David Galarneau, Bud Bradshaw, Ken Bradshaw, Les Bradshaw, Richard Galarneau and Sonnie Helmle. Interment followed in the Bassano Cemetery.
