George, James Claybourn

GEORGE – James Claybourn (Jim) George, beloved husband of Alice George of Gem, passed away in Brooks on February 4th, 1998 at the age of 85 years.

Jim was born in Sweetwater, Idaho, at the home of his maternal grandparents. The family homesteaded in Hutton, Alberta where Jim received some schooling as well as in Montana, Bassano and Gem. He married Alice Shier in Hartell, Alberta on August 4th, 1942 and together they ranched and farmed in Gem. Jim will be remembered for his generosity and his willingness to go out of his the way to help others. His optimism and belief in human dignity and the ability and responsibility of the individual were also important. Jim had a keen interest in politics and a special love of sports and children especially his grandchildren and great-grandson.

He was predeceased by his parents James and Fayetta George and one brother Bill George in 1976.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife Alice; daughters Christine Andrus of Cessford, Jerrilyn (Ed) Wass of Victoria, B.C.; sons Frank (Judy) of Calgary, Floyd (Stephanie) of Gem, Wayne (Jean) of Victoria, B.C.; grandchildren Tod and Jerry Andrus; Christie (Scott) Grover, Carrie, Tyler and Graham George; Christopher and Erica George; Paul and Ross George; great-grandson Ryan Grover and sister Babe Christianson.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 9th at 2 p.m. from the Knox Presbyterian Church, Bassano. Rev. Fiona Wilkinson officiated. Pallbearers were Tod Andrus, Christopher George, Tyler George, Ronn Christianson, Bill George and Jack Shier. Interment followed at Bassano Cemetery.
