MacPHAIL – Anne Julia MacPhail, beloved wife of Tom MacPhail, passed away suddenly on April 21 st, 1999 in Bassano at the age of 60 years.
Born in Port Hood, Nova Scotia on February 9th, 1939 Anne moved with her family to Pictou, Nova Scotia where she attended school at the Convent and graduated from the Pictou Academy. Anne had been employed at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Pictou until she and Tom were married on August 7th, 1965. They came west to Gem and resided there until moving to Bassano in 1984. Anne was employed in Gem at the General Store and in Bassano, from 1985, at the Memorial Library. She had been a member of St. Columba Catholic Church in Bassano serving on Parish Council for many years. Anne was an avid bowler and a member of TOPS. She will be well remembered for her love for her family, for her friends and library patrons.
Anne was predeceased by her parents Pat rick and Muriel; sisters Bernadette White, Mary Francis and Jean Crowell: infant brother Gerald, nieces Deborah White and Tara Murphy and nephews James Murphy and Gerald Murphy.
Besides her husband Tom of Bassano, she is also survived by her loving children, daughter Deborah Anne-Marie MacPhail of Edmonton; son James and his wife Cora and their son Tristan Thomas of Duchess; sisters Peggy (Russ) Knabb of Florida and Theresa (Mario) Girotti of St. Catharines, Ontario; 3 brothers Thomas (Barbara) Murphy of LaMirada, California, Patrick (Elinor) Murphy of Pictou and Dennis (Norma) Murphy of Thorold, Ontario; nieces and nephews who were very special to her and her pets, cats that she loved dearly, Sadie and Shadow. .
Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 26th from St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Bassano. The Rev. Rustico and The Rev. Ranola celebrants.
Honorary pallbearers were Betty Zibell, Marilyn Helmle, Kathy Bulger, Greta Day, Babe Christianson and Carol Miklos.
Active pallbearers were James MacPhail, Brian Maquire, Vie Toth, Mike Steinbach, Henry Neufeld and Murray Ballance.
