Nail, Zylpha Nail

NAIL – Zylpha Nail passed away June 2nd, 1998 in Bassano at the age of 73 years.

Born in Bassano, she married Harold on October 22nd, 1944 and together they farmed in Makepeace until moving to Bassano in 1969. Zylpha had worked in the Friendly Store until retiring in 1984. She did babysitting in Bassano for many years. Zylpha was very active in the community and had held many positions in volunteer organizations among them Willing Workers and Salvation Army and had also worked at the Bassano Complex. Zlypha was a dedicated member of the Bassano O.O.R.P. holding many offices and had just completed her second term as Honoured Royal Lady (1968-69,1995- 96)). Another of her great joys was being presented Curler of the Year in 1986.

Zylpha will be best remembered for her love for her family, for the many friendships she shared, for her willingness to help with any task and for the buns which she baked for many people in the community.

She was predeceased by her husband Harold on September 23rd, 1988 and by her parents Elton and Pauline Heryford and a brother Cecil.

She is survived by her loving children ­ son Lee and his wife Judy of Tomahawk, Alberta and their children Janel, Jeff and Lisa – daughter Gwen Thorlakson and her husband Terry of Chestermere and their children – daughter Tania Burton and her husband Collin of Tilley and their children Derek, Darryl, Dallyn and Paige, – son Terry Tyson of Hardisty; 2 brothers Bob (Verna) Heryford of Bassano and Dale (Lynn) Heryford of Sherwood Park; two sisters Irene Ashmead and Jean (Frank) Willms both of Bassano and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5th from Knox Presbyterian Church, Bassano. Rev. Fiona Wilkinson officiated.

Honorary pallbearers were all her special friends. Honorguard and Fraternal Services were provided by the Ladies of the Royal Purple. Pallbearers were Collin Burton, Jeff Nail, Terry Tyson Thorlakson, Duane Fladhamer, Andreas Nielsen and Doug Clark.

Interment followed at Bassano Cemetery. In remembrance of Mrs. Nail memorial contributions may be made to either Bassano Cemetery Fund, Box 299, Bassano, AB. TOJ OBO or charity of choice. Arrangements in care of Smith Funeral Home. Telephone 362-4636.
