Sagstuen, Bud

SAGSTUEN – Bud Sagstuen  beloved husband of Alice Sagstuen of Bassano, passed away in Bassano on March 28th, 1998 at the age of 79 years.

Born in Gjorvik, Norway on January 26th, 1919 Bud came to Canada with his parents in 1924 to Eastend, Saskatchewan. He resided in numerous places during the 30’s until enlisting with the Royal Canadian Army in 1939. Bud served in England until 1942 when he was sent to North Africa and later Italy, Holland and back to England. He married Alice Champion in Battle, Sussex on March 29th, 1945. Bud returned to Canada in June of 1945 and was joined in Brooks by Alice on April 10th, 1946. He was employed with Grimm Alfalfa and for a short time had operated a garage in partnership with his father and brother in Rolling Hills. He began employment with the EID in 1949, retiring in 1984. Bud started with EID as a labourer and through the years was promoted to Ditchrider in Rosemary, to Water Supervisor in Brooks and Duchess and retired as Superintendent of Headworks, Bassano. He had also served as guard with the Bassano RCMP until his illness. Bud was currently serving as Councillor for the Town of Bassano and had been President of the Drop-in Centre for several years. In earlier years Bud was very active with the Air Cadets and Militia in Rolling Hills, Brooks and Duchess. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion ­ EID Branch, Brooks and Elks Club in Brooks and later Bassano where he was currently serving as District Deputy. Bud will be best remembered for his love of his family and for his willingness to help anyone anytime.

He was predeceased by his parents Jens and Johanna and his brother Hans. Besides his beloved wife Alice, Bud is also survived by his loving children Larry and his wife Rosalyn of Calgary and Audrey Wilton and her husband Brian of High River; 5 grandchildren Shauna (Dan), Tracey (Stephen), Bryan, Travis and Carter; 2 great­ granddaughters Kaitlin and Cassandra and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1st from Knox Presbyterian Church, Bassano. Rev. Fiona Wilkinson officiating.

Honor guards are supplied by members of the Royal Canadian Legion and Elks.
