Sonnie, Gus William

SONNIE: Gus William (Bud) Sonnie died in the Bassano General Hospital on October 25, 1990 at the age of 59 years following a lengthy illness with leukemia.

He was born in High River, Alberta on May 5, 1931 and was raised west of Nanton. He later worked for Streeter Bros. of Stavely, Burns Ranches and Gillespie Ranch of Finnegan. He moved to Gem, Alberta in 1961 where he farmed until 1988 and moved to Bassano where he has resided since.

He was very talented in leather work, braiding, tooling, rawhide and upholstery.

Bud was predeceased by his mother Ruth Sonnie in 1942, his father G.W. “Slim” Sonnie in 1980 and a sister Joan Andrus in 1988.

Surviving are his loving wife Eileen and sons Chad, Michael and Brian, three sisters Eleanor (Delbert) Gillespie of Finnegan, Alberta, Betty (Eric) Berg of Innisfail, Alberta, and Julia (Gene) Christianson of Greendale, Australia and a brother-in-law Frank Andrus of Standard, Alberta.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 30 at 2 p.m. in Knox Presbyterian Church in Bassano with the Reverend Hector Rose officiating. Interment followed in the Bassaano Cemetery.
