STILES: William Joel Stiles of Bassano, Alberta died on February 9, 1987 at the age of 61 years,
He was born at Bassano and resided there most of his life.
He attended Mount Royal College in Calgary and later graduated from the University of Alberta as a pharmacist in 1954 and returned to Bassano to work , with his father and brother at Stiles “The . Druggist” Ltd.
He married Alberta Garrett in Brooks on June 10, 1953.
He was a member of the Bassano Kinsmen, served on the town council and chamber of commerce, was a member of Bassano Lodge No. 55 A.F. & A.M., Harmony Chapter No. 26, was an elder at Knox Presbyterian Church for the past 30 years and served on both the session and the board of managers and taught Sunday school for the past 20 years.
He was predeceased by his father Joel in 1957.
Surviving are his wife Alberta of Bassano, a son John and his wife Christy and children Paula and Scott of Calgary; three daughters, Glenna and her husband Garry Tomala of Calgary, Janet and her husband John Cormack of Duchess and Carol and her fiance Narin Nerland of Calgary, his mother May Stiles of Brooks; three brothers, Ted and his wife Winnie of Bassano, Norman and Em of Leduc and Bob and Effie of Bassano, a sister Gwen Nesbitt of Victoria and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 12 at 2 p.m. in Knox Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Hector Rose officiating. Interment will follow in the Bassano Cemetery.
If friends desire memorial donations may be made to the Knox Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
