WOOD – Wilbur Duncan Wood of Bassano, Alberta died in the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on October 23, 1989 at the age of 67 years.
He was born at Carstairs, Alberta and married Esther Unger on April 3, 1944 in Didsbury. They farmed at Carstairs until moving to Bassano in 1955 where he continued to farm.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge AF & AM No. 55 Bassano, the Royal Arch Masons, Harmony Chapter No. 26, Bassano Perceptory; Azhar Temple AAONMS, Calgary and Drumheller and the OES, Mary Keohane Chapter No. 96, Bassano.
He was predeceased by his father Ray in 1980, his mother Nettie in 1984 and a brother Ray in 1976.
Surviving are his wife Esther of Bassano, his children Gail Kelly and her husband David of Bassano, Bev Smillie and her husband Gordon, Marilyn Armstrong and her husband Grant, Darwyne Wood and his wife Debbie, 10 grandchildren, a brother Ken (Arlene) Wood of Airdrie, a sister Lois (John) Hollingsworth of Calgary and nieces and nephews.
Following a family graveside service on Thursday, October 26 at 12:30 p.m. at the Bassano Cemetery a memorial service was held at the Knox Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Hector Rosele and the Reverend Ed Mullen officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were John and Mary Stankovic, Gordon and Loie Manning, Sonny Grey, Alfred and Amelia Hammer, Art Simpson and Herb and Ida McCrady. Active pallbearers were Dick Alberts, Roy Husband, Rod Hood, Dick Plumer, Arnold Armstrong and Lorne Thorlakkkson.
