Aasen, Melvin Arnold

MELVIN ARNOLD AASEN – Melvin Arnold Aasen  died on August 4, 1984 at  Brooks, Alberta at the age  of 73 years.  He was born at Blanchard Trail County, North  Dakota, U.S.A. on  September 11, 1910 and  came with his family when  they immigrated to the Gull  Lake, Saskatchewan  district in 1912.  He attended school near  Scotsguard and in 1929 took  a barbering course in  Regina and barbered for  over 40 years at Hazenmore, Moose Jaw and  Rouleau, Saskatchewan and  at Hughendon, Alberta  before moving to Brooks in  1948. He operated his own  barber shop here until 1970  and moved to the Bow City  district where he farmed  and later retired on his  son’s farm residing there  since. Mel was a life member of  the B.P.O.E. Lodge and an  avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting with his family and friends.   He was predeceased by  his parents, Ole and Lise  Aasen and a brother,  Gilman. Surviving are his wife  Ruby of Bow City; two  daughters, Mrs. Terry (Dorothy) Bacon of Edmonton and Mrs. Gordon (Ethel) Hansen of Brooks; two sons  Alfred and his wife Lorrian  of Rainier, Kenneth and his  wife Joyce of Bow City; 11  grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Luella Island of  Shaunovan, Saskatchewan  and Mrs. Esther Petrescu  of Moose Jaw; two  brothers, Bernard Aasen of  Moose Jaw and Orville  Aasen of Brooks.   Funeral service will be  held on Wednesday, August  8 (today) at.2:00 p.m. in  Smith Memorial Chapel  with Pastor Kenneth Grambo officiating. Interment  will follow in the Brooks  Cemetery.  Honorary pallbearers are  Sam Meier, Vern Gausman  Albert Jolitz, Fred Gall,  George Swenson and Bob  Smith. Active pallbearers  are Norman Aasen, Rod  Aasen, Doug Aasen, Wayne  Hansen, Jim Bacon and Mitchell Bacon.
