Anderson, Lelia McVicar

ANDERSON  – Lelia McVicar Anderson  Brooks, Alberta died on July 18, 1984 at the age of  88 years. She was born at St.  George, New Brunswick on  May 19, 1896 and attended  school there. She graduated  as a school teacher and  taught for three years in St. John, N.B. and came west  to Alberta teaching at  Burdett also in the Scandia  district in 1924.  She married Carl Anderson at Winnipeg, Manitoba  in January, 1928.  She returned to Scandia  teaching one more year and  farmed in the district until  1947 when she moved to  Brooks where she has resided since. She was a member of the  Brooks United Church and  served as a Sunday school  teacher, served on the  Brooks School Board for  several years and was an  ardent curler.  She was predeceased by  her parents; five brothers;  and four sisters. Surviving are her husband Carl Anderson of  Brooks; one sister, Mrs.  Blanche Anderson of  Lethbridge and numerous  nieces and nephews.  Funeral service was held  in the Brooks United  Church on Saturday, July 2:00 p.m. with the  Reverend James Hamilton  officiating. Interment  followed in the Brooks  Cemetery. Pallbearers were  Clarence Bengtson, Allen  Nielsen, Cecil Reeves,  Allen Axelson, Kermith  Anderson and Lawrence  Johnson.  If friends desire  memorial donations may be  made to the Brooks United  Church Memorial Fund.  Smith Funeral Home was  in charge of arrangements.
