ANDERSON – Born in Brejining, Denmark, Nels Peter Anderson died Saturday, March 16, 1985 at his home in Brooks, Alberta at the age of 94. Mr. Anderson emigrated to St. Paul, Minnesota at the age of 15 and worked at various jobs including the Northern Pacific Railway at Pasco, Washington. In 1910, he and his brother Andy moved to Canada and homesteaded at Alderson, Alberta. He was an original settler of the Tilley area and in 1931 he opened the International Harvester dealership there. He retired in 1960 and in 1972 moved to Brooks where he resided until his death. In 1936 he married the former Leah McLean of Red Deer. She predeceased him in 1962. He was an avid reader and hobbyist and made many articles of both wood and metal. He is survived by five sons: Ian and Margaret of Medicine Hat, Peter and, Betty of Red Deer, Donald and Judy of Brooks, Leigh and Margaret of Ottawa, and Robin and Pat of Red Deer: one daughter, Connie and Rick Swanson of Brooks; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Bud Day, Tom Simpson, Grant Jordan, Stan Benson, Alex Chrumka and Garth Ledgerwood. Honorary pallbearers are, John Smidstrup, Hans Peter Johansen, Arne Hendricksen, Carl Anderson, Vince Fabian, George Nelson, Fred Gratrix and George Calpas. Services will be held Thursday, March 21 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooks with Pastor Chuck Gorectke officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
