Armstrong, Francis Benjamin

ARMSTRONG – Mr. Francis (Frank) Benjamin Armstrong, beloved husband of Rosemary Armstrong of Brooks, passed away in Brooks on August 9th, 1998 at the age of 84 years.

Born in Windthorst, Saskatchewan on May 29th, 1914, Frank received all of his education there and after graduation he helped on the family farm. In 1931, he moved to Carrot River where he continued to farm and work as a Sawyer in the surrounding lumber camps. Frank joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 30th, 1941 stationed at Goose Bay Labrador, Smithers and the Queen Charlotte Islands, British Columbia until his honourable discharge in 1945. From 1946 to 1948 Frank worked for the Saskatchewan Government as a supervisor for the clearing of land for the Veterans in Smoky Burn, east of Carrot River. Frank married Rosemary in March of 1948 and together they farmed in the Smoky Burn area until their retirement to Carrot River in 1976. Together they moved to Brooks in 1995 where they have resided since.

Frank was predeceased by his parents Jim and Myrtle; 2 brothers Allan and Jim and a nephew Allan Armstrong.

He is survived by twin daughters Jean (Del) Giles and Joan (George) Niznik; granddaughters Heather (Curtis) Harbinson and Tracy (Randy) Hitchcock; grandsons Murry (Jackie Odland) Giles, Jason Giles, Brad (fiancee – Kristen Pickett) Niznik, Bruce (fiancee – Jodi Biette) Niznik; great grandchildren Jayme, Chad and Haley Harbinson all of Brooks; sisters Marguerite Tholl of Regina and Ann Roberts of Carrot River; sisters-in­law Betty of Carrot River, Ann of Kelowna and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 13th from Brooks United Church. Rev. George Edmonds officiating.

Active pallbearers are Brad Niznik, Murry Giles, Bruce Niznik, Jason Giles, Randy Hitchcock and Curtis Harbinson.

Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery.
