Bamford, Aurelia

BAMFORD – Aurelia (“Ottie”) Bamford,  cherished mother, grandmother, great-  grandmother and friend, passed away at  Brooks Health Centre on Tuesday,  September 7, 1999 at the age of 90 years.

Aurelia was born in Suffolk, England  on December 29, 1908 and came to  Canada with her family when she was 11  years old. The family settled in Pickering,  Ontario and soon thereafter moved to  the Colonsay district in Manitoba. Aurelia  married Percy Bamford in Foxwarren,  Manitoba in 1932 and it was there that  they farmed and raised their three  daughters. In 1973, Percy and Aurelia  retired to Brooks, Alberta.

Aurelia was predeceased by her  parents Marie and Arthur Smith, her  husband Percy on July 16, 1979; her  sisters Ethel, Lillian, Maude, and Mabel;  and brothers Cecil, Arthur and Kenneth.  She will be lovingly remembered by her  l daughters Joyce (Ray) Simms of  1 Brandon, Manitoba; Shirley (Bob) Prus of  Brooks, Alberta; Beverley (Peter) Haliuk  of Russell, Manitoba; grandchildren Holly, Heather, Rob (Prus); Curtis, Penni, Patti  (Haliuk); and 12 great-grandchildren.

Aurelia was a strong-willed, independent, outgoing woman who fully embraced life. ln  her younger years she was infamous for her practical jokes and well-known for-her  fiddle playing, her beautiful singing voice, her dancing and her scrumptious raspberry  pies. in her later years she particularly loved the time spent with her grandchildren and  great-grandchildren, regaling them with songs and stories of the past, and expressing  her gratitude for the joy that they brought to her life. Aurelia loved growing flowers and  seemed to nurture all people around her. Her courage, her humour and her warm and  generous spirit touched the lives of many. lt is with great sadness that we have to say  goodbye.

A graveside memorial service will be held on October 9, 1999 at FoxwarrenCemetery  at 11:00 a.m. If friends desire, a donation in Aurelia’s memory may be made to the  Canadian Diabetes Association.
