Gwendolyn Lillian Banderob (Hankel) died on October 26, 1987 in the Brooks Health Centre Nursing Home at the age of 98 years. She was born at Plattsmouth, Nebraska, U.S.A. on September 19, 1889. She married Fred Hankel on December 16,1918 at Havre, Montana and moved to Suffield and to Tilley in 1931 with her husband where they operated the Tilley Hotel until 1940. After Fred passed away on April 26, 1953 she moved to Calgary and married Peter Banderob on June 8, 1958. She returned to the Pioneer Villa in Tilley in 1982 and entered the Brooks Health Centre Nursing Home in 1985. Surviving are a daughter Alice Russell of Anglemont, B.C., two sons, Tom and his wife Marie of Tilley and Harvey and his wife Ethel of Calgary, nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two greatgreat-grandchildren, a brother Bob Johnson of Cranbrook and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held on Friday, October 30 at 2 p.m. in Smith Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Bob Warrington officiating. Interment followed in the Brooks Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Connie Van Wert, Lyle Clary, Art Burton, Eric Tatem, Vince Fabian and Bob Lee. Active pallbearers were Ron Crosley, Ron Hankel, Don Hankel, Frank Bryson, Roy Hankel and Ron VanOene. If friends desire memorial donations may be made to the Brooks Health Centre Nursing Home. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
