BANEK – Christianna Banek died in the Brooks Health Centre on December 20, 1985,
She was born in Russia and came to Canada with her parents in 1912 to the Irvine district. She was married in Medicine Hat on March 27, 1923 and farmed at Herbert, Saskatchewan and later Schuler before coming to Rainier in 1945. She farmed there until retiring to Brooks in 1962 where she has resided since.
She has been a resident of the Newell Nursing Home for the past two years.
She was predeceased by her husband Richard on November 8, 1984 and a daughter Margaret in 1928
Surviving are two daughters, Esther Flinn and her husband Russell of Dapp, Alberta, Beatrice Vikedal and her husband Kris of Brooks; four sons, Wilbert and his wife Mona of Kamloops. B.C., Kenneth of Brooks, Harvey and his wife Gloria of Olds and John and his wife Marylyn of Medicine Hat, 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Miss Annie Weiss and Mary McDonald, both of Medicine Hat; four brothers, Emil Weiss of Fort Macleod, John and Jacob Weiss of Medicine Hat, Joe Weiss of Sundre and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held on Monday, December 12 at 2 p.m. in Smith Funeral Chapel with Reverend Dean Knutsen officiating. Interment followed in the Brooks Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Art Larson, Reuben Gill, Ken Lintott, Vern Gausman, Art Chelte and Dave Wipf.
