BANEK – Richard Banek died on November 8,1984 at Brooks, Alberta at the age of 85 years. He was born at Campbell County, South Dakota, U.S.A. on March 1,1899. In 1909, he moved with his parents to Irvine, Alberta south of Medicine Hat and farmed there. He married Christianna Weiss on March 27, 1923 in Medicine Hat and farmed at Herbert, Saskatchewan and Schuler, Alberta before moving to Rainier in 1945. He farmed there until 1962 when he retired to Brooks where he has resided since. For the past 11 months he has resided in the Newell Nursing Home. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Margaret in 1928; also two brothers, one sister and three grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Christianna of Brooks; two daughters, Mrs. Russell (Esther) Flinn of Dapp, Alberta and Mrs. Kris (Beatrice) Vikedal of Brooks; four sons, Wilbert and his wife, Mona of Kanloops, B.C., Kenneth Banek of Brooks, Harvey and his wife, Gloria of Olds, John and his wife, Marylyn of Red Deer; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and one sister Katie Kopp of Medicine Hat. Funeral service was held on Monday, November 12 at 2:00 p.m. in Smith Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Dean Knudsen officiating. Interment followed in Brooks Cemetery. Pallbearers were Marinus Jacobsen, George Albush, Andy Link, Ken Lintott, Art Chelte and Vern Gausman. If friends desire memorial donations may be made to the ImmanueI Assembly Memorial Fund. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
