BEKKER – David George Bekker died in the Brooks Health Centre on April 8, 1986 at the age of 50 years.
He was born at Ryley, Alberta and received most of his schooling there and later Rosthern, Saskatchewan, and Calgary Technical School.
He joined AGT in Calgary in 1956 and was there until 1961, Red Deer from 1961 to 1975 and assumed a management position at Hanna from 1975 to 1979 when he came to Brooks, where he has resided since.
He was treasurer of the Sunnybrook United Church in Red Deer and a member of the United Church Council in Hanna, a member of the Hanna Elks, Royal Canadian Legion, Brooks Branch and was an avid golfer, curler, loved skiing and enjoyed baseball.
Surviving are his wife Joy (nee Cushing) of Brooks; a daughter Karen of Calgary; a son Paul of Brooks; his mother Maria Bekker of Ryley; four sisters, Helen Bekker of Edmonton, Anne Friesen of Tofield, Mary Bekker of Edmonton and Betty Klassen of Beltsville, Maryland; four brothers, Henry of Ryley, John of Medicine Hat Jacob of Grand Forks, B.C. and George of Elk’ Point, Alberta; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, April 12 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Pastor Ken Grambo and Pastor George Hind officiating. Interment followed in the Brooks Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ian Dudgon, Glenn Plowman, Jack Cook, Ron Medin, Bob Timmins and Ken Langille.
