BENDER – John George Bender died on Sunday, Nov. 22nd at the age of 77 in the Brooks General Hospital.
Born in Scotland, he migrated to South Dakota in 1887. He came to Walsh in 1910 where he homesteaded there and in the Schuler area until 1937, when he moved to the Duchess district.
From there he moved to the Tilley district for three years before retirement to Brooks in 1952. For the past year he has been a resident of the Newbrook Lodge.
He is survived by four sons. George Bender of Hargrave, Man.; Bill of Brooks; Leonard of Macworth. Sask. and Jacob of Millicent; three daughters, Mrs. Emma Rasmussen of Brooks, Mrs Ida Houseman of Brooks, Mrs Edna Carrobourg of Coderre, Sask.; 15 grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Hanna, in 1946 and one son, Andrew, in 1949.
Services under the direction of Smith’s Funeral Home were held on Wednesday, Nov. 25th from the Brooks United Church with Rev. L. Ling officiating. Interment followed in Brooks Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill Squirrell, Lionel Senecal, Fritz Burk, Hans Rasmussen, August Villadsen and John Smidstrup.
