BENDER· William (Bill) Bender passed away in Brooks on August 9th, 1997 at the age of 75 years.
Born in Schuler, Alberta on January 17th, 1922, Bill came to the EID District in the early 1930’s and resided here since. He married Mary Barquest in 1947 in Medicine Hat. Bill had farmed in the community, was later employed at Brooks Horticultural Centre and retired with the EID. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion – EID Branch.
Bill was predeceased by his wife Mary on August 12th, 1984, a sister Edna and a brother Andy. He is survived by his wife Marie of Brooks, his children Babs Wutzke and her husband Harold of Brooks, Dean Bender and his wife Linda of Nanaimo; 8 grandchildren; Mary’s and Marie’s families, two sisters Emma Rasmussen of Brooks and Ida Houseman of Duchess; 3 brothers George of Oak Lake, Manitoba, Leonard of Rock Glen, Saskatchewan and Jake of Hanna and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 12th at 2:00 p.m. from Trinity Lutheran Church, Brooks. Rev. John Theiss Officiated.
Honorary pallbearers were all Bill’s many friends. Active pallbearers were grandsons Chris Wutzke, Jeremy and Jasen Bender, Lee and Kevin Noble and David Houseman.
Interment followed at Brooks Cemetery.
