Bengtson, Clarence Laverne

BENGTSON· Clarence Laverne Bengtson, beloved husband of Ilene Bengtson of Brooks, passed away in Calgary on August 1st, 1996 at the age of 79 years. Born in Hordville, Nebraska on September 1Oth, 1916, at the age of two Clarence came to  Alberta with his parents to the Scandia District where they farmed. He married the former Ilene Rosdal on September 10th, 1944 in Scandia. They took over the family farm which they operated until moving to Brooks in 1964. Clarence began a second career, book­keeping, and was employed with Perry Olson and later Bow Slope Shipping until retiring in 1979. He was a charter member of both the Salem Lutheran Church in Scandia and later the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooks and had been very involved with each. He enjoyed 40 years 40 years of participation in the EID and Brooks and District Bands, was an avid curler and had been involved with Meals On Wheels, along with many other activities. He was predeceased by his father and mother, John and Gerda; by his brothers Sig and Bernie and by his sister Olivia Anderson. Clarence is also survived by his loving children Don and his wife Carol of Lethbridge, Diane Jahns and her husband Carl of Forestburg, Alberta and Lorene Nichols and her husband Brian of Brooks; grandsons David, Matthew and Stephen Jahns and Andrew, Stuart, Sean and Joel Nichols; his brother Leland (Mae) Bengtson of McLean, Virginia; sister-in­law Doris Bengtson of Minneapolis, Min­nesota and numerous nieces and neph­ews. Funeral services were held on Tues­day, August 6th at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lu­theran Church. Rev. Dick Hanson offici­ated. Interment followed at Brooks Cemetery. Bengtson – Ilene Sophia  Bengtson, widow of the late Clarence  Bengtson, passed away in Brooks on  September 2nd. 2002 at the age of  83 years. Ilene was born in Robsart,  Saskatchewan on October 26th,  1918. She grew up in the Robsart  area where she completed her high  school. Ilene moved to Bawlf in 1938  and worked at the Bethany Sunset  Home. She attended Normal School,  Edmonton in 1939 graduating in  1940. Ilene had taught in the  Meeting Creek and Alliance areas  before moving to Scandia. She and  Clarence were married there on  September 10th, 1944 and farmed  in the Scandia area until coming to  Brooks in 1964. She was a substitute  in Scandia and Brooks and taught in  Brooks for a number of years. Ilene  was a member of SalemLutheran  Church in Scandia and a Charter Member of Trinity Lutheran Church in  Brooks. She was very active in her church and community. Ilene had been  a member of Brooks Art Guild for many years and was an avid curler when  health permitted. Ilene was known for her gentle ways, kindness, hospitality,  strong faith and love and nurturing of family and friends. She touched the lives  of so many people in many ways. Ilene was predeceased by her husband  Clarence on August 1st, 1996; her parents Axel and Emelia Rosdal; an infant  brother Trygve and a brother Clarence on August 26th, 1999. She is survived  by her loving family, son Don and his wife Carol of Lethbridge; daughter  Diane Jahns and her husband Carl of Forestburg; daughter Lorene Nichols  and her husband Brian of Brooks; 7 grandsons David, Matthew and Stephen  Jahns and Andrew (Denise), Stuart (Lynda). Sean and Joel Nichols; brother  Halvar Rosdal of Rolling Hills; sister Evelyn (Archie) Marzolf of Edmonton  and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on  Friday, September 6th from TrinityLutheranChurch. Rev. John Theiss  and his wife Maggie officiating.
