Block, Jens Vissing
BLOCK – A well-known resident of the Eastern Irrigation District, Jens Vissing Block of Brooks, Alberta died on December 26, 1979 in the Brooks Health Centre at the age of 88 years.
He was born in Billum, Denmark and came to Yakima Valley, Washington, U.S.A. in 1910 and moved to Bitterroot Valley, Montana and to Alaska before returning to Denmark in 1919. He came to Millicent, Alberta in 1922 farming there until 1952. He moved to Bassano where he farmed and ranched until retiring to Brooks in 1971 where he has resided since.
He served on the E.I.D. board from 1939 to 1946 and was a member of the Brooks Masonic Lodge and the Royal Arch Masons, Bassano Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Helga of Brooks; one son, Carl of Bassano; one daughter, Mrs. Ed (Berna) Moss of Ellsworth, Iowa; six grandchildren; two brothers, Aage Block of Standard and Hans Block of Calgary and one sister, Mrs. Anna Glud Jensen in Denmark.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 2 (today) at 2:00 p.m. in Smith Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Hector Rose officiating. Interment will follow in the Brooks Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tom Sewall, Evert Ohman, Stan Haskayne, Bob Armstrong, Neil McKinnon and Walt Christensen.
If friends desire donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
