Braconnier, Lawrence L.B. & Mary J.B.

BRACONNIER – A pioneer resident of the Western plains, Lawrence Louis Benjamin Braconnier of Patricia died May 16, 1972 in Foothills Hospital, Calgary at the age of 73.

Born in Renfrew, Ontario he came west to Gravelbourg. Sask., at an early age. He moved to Medicine Hat in 1915 and married there in 1920, In 1924 they moved to Millicent district, He retired to the village of Patricia in 1970 where he has resided since.

Surviving are his wife. Mary Braconnier of Patricia, eight daughters and six sons: Mrs. Irene Lacourse, Cumberland, B.C., Mrs. Marjorie Kostner, Legal, Alta., Mrs. Dale (Dorie) Winchester, Brooks, Mrs. Jean Schwier, Calgary, Mrs. George (Isabelle) Morrison, Cremona, Mrs. Florence Grower of Calgary, Mrs. Doug (Jannet) Hart, Taber, Mrs. Alberta (Yvonne) Byers, Patricia; six sons, Louis, Lethbridge, Hector, Courtenay, B.C. Victor, John, Henry and Peter all of Patricia; one sister Mrs. Georgina Doe, Gravelbourg, Sask.; three brothers Pete Braconnier, Three Hills, Adlore, Medicine Hat and George Yakima, Wash.; 71 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Prayer service was held at Smith Funeral Chapel on Friday, May 19 at 8:00 p.m. and funeral service was held at St. Mary’s Church, Brooks on Saturday, May 20 at a.m. with Rev.F. Mongeau officiating. Interment was in Brooks cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tom Charlton, George Charlton, Carlo Ahlers, Jim Westwick. Bob Deer and Tom Musgrove. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

BRACONNIER – Mary Julia. Braconnier beloved wife of the late Larnie Braconnier of Brooks died at the Extendicare Nursing Home in Lethbridge on February 28, 1990 at the age of 89 years.

Mrs. Braconnier was born on September 20, 1900 in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario and moved to Medicine. Hat, where she met and married Larnie in 1920. They lived in Medicine Hat and Tilley before moving to Millicent in 1927. It was there that they raised their 14 children. After the death of her husband in 1972, Mrs. Braconnier moved to Lethbridge where she resided until her passing.

She was predeceased by her husband, Larnie, a daughter Isabelle Morrison, a son Hector Braconnier, one sister and one brother.

She the loving mother of Irene Lacourse of Cumberland, B.C., Marge Kostner of Millet, Louis Braconnier of Brooks, Doris Winchester of Brooks, Jean Schwaire of Calgary, Victor and Sharon Braconnier of Rimbey, John Braconnier of Tilley, Florence and Peter Friesen of Calgary, Janet and Doug Hart of Lethbridge, Yvonne Byers of Patricia, Henry Braconnier of Lethbridge, Peter and Deanna Braconnier of Red Deer as well as a daughter-in-law, Irene Braconnier of Courtney, B.C. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews and one brother, Leonard Lavoie of Castlegar, B.C.

Funeral mass was celebrated at St.  Mary’s Catholic Church, Brooks on Tuesday, March 6, 1990 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend John Petravicius celebrant. Interment followed in the Brooks Cemetery.
