BUDAY – Mrs. Maria Buday, passed away suddenly on July 10, 1966 while on a trip to Czechoslovakia with her husband. She was 72.

She came from Czechoslovakia in 1921 and to the Tilley district in 1929, where she has since resided.

She was a member of the First Catholic Slovak Union.

Surviving her are her husband John of Tilley, three sons John Jr., Frank and Joseph of Tilley; one daughter Mrs. Mary Voroney of Tilley, 12 grandchildren and five sisters in Czechoslovakia. She was predeceased by one son Paul in 1940.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 19 at 10.00 a.m. from St, Jude’s Catholic Church, Tilley with Rev. Father B. Field officiating. Interment was in the Brooks Cemetery. Funeral services were under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Pallbearers, all members of the First Catholic Slovak Union were John Onda, Alen Chrumka, Karol Chrumka, George Calpas, George Timko and John Dunay.

BUDAY – John Buday died Saturday, August 30 in Medicine Hat General Hospital at the age of 85. Born in Czechoslovakia in 1892, he came to Johnstown, Pennsylvania in 1921 where he worked in coal mines. In 1930 he moved with his family to the Tilley district where he farmed until he retired in 1965. He has resided in the farm site since. He served in the First World War on the Russian front.

He was predeceased by his wife Maria in 1966 and a son Paul in 1940. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Mary Voroney of Brooks; three sons, John, Frank and Joseph of Tilley, one sister, three brothers, 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers are John Buday Sr., George Timko Sr., Alex Chrumka Sr., Joe Toth Sr., August Haus, Louis Gongal, Mike Suchy, Paul Clomistek Sr., and Steve Mrakava Sr.

Active pallbearers are Bob Buday, Frank Buday, John Buday Jr., Richard Voroney. Willie Voroney and Paul Voroney.

Prayers were held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Smith Memorial chapel with funeral mass held Friday, September 1 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rev. F.R. Mongeau officiating. Interment followed in Brooks Cemetery.

If friends desire, donations may be made to the St. Jude’s building fund, Tilley.

Smith Funeral Home of Brooks and Bassano was in charge of arrangements.
