BUNNEY –Calvin Andrew Bunney of Duchess, Alberta died in a plane crash in the mountains of northern California, U.S.A. on May 22, 1979 and was found on September 22, 1979.
He was 19 years of age and was born at Brooks. Alberta on February 13, 1960.
He attended school at Duchess and later farmed and ranched with his father, Austin Bunney, He took an active interest in sports, played hockey and has participated in rodeo activities since 1975.In that year he competed in high school rodeo finals at Gallup, New Mexico; Sulphur, Louisiana in 1976 and also Helena, Montana in 1977. He won the bareback high school award in 1976 for Alberta and in 1978won a trophy saddle for bareback in Spruce Grove. In 1978 he won the rookie of the year award for the Foothills Cowboy Association.
He is survived by his parents, Hilda and Austin Bunney of Duchess; a sister; Cheryl of Brooks; his brother, Bryan of Cessford and his grandmother, Mrs. Mary Ulrick of Newbrook Lodge in Brooks.
Funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 2. at 2 p.m. in Brooks United Church with the Rev. George G. Scott officiating. Interment followed in the Brooks Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were Darryl Collins, Darrell Owen, Jim Finkbeiner, Tim Stearns, Brad Gardner and Zane Owen.
