Burke, Zelda Helen

BURKE – Mrs. Zelda Helen Burke passed away in the Brooks Municipal Hospital on Thursday, April 9th, at the age of 56, following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Burke was born in Greenfield, Missouri, U.S.A., the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sloan, moving to Champion, Alta., as a child. She taught school at Champion and in Nanton, Alta. for several years until her marriage in 1926 to George Ingram Burke of that town. They resided in Nanton, moving to Queenstown in 1928 and from there to Duchess in 1932. They moved to Brooks in 1939 and have made their home here since.

Active in church and lodge work, she was a member of St. Alban’s Anglican church and past-president of the Women’s Guild of that church. She was past-matron of Helen Chapter No. 91 of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Burke is survived by her husband, George, two daughters, Helen (Mrs. Vern Smith) and Lorrain (Mrs. Alfred Aasen) and six grandchildren, all of Brooks; one brother, Roger Sloan of Dawson Creek, B.C.

Funeral services were held from St. Alban’s Church on Saturday, April 11th at two p.m. with interment in Brooks Cemetery. Rev. G. P. Chant officiated at the services.

Pall bearers were R.J. Fowler of Acme, Wm. Campbell, Ron Wilkie and C.T. Schon. Funeral arrangements were by Smith Funeral Home.
