Charles, John Csokai

CHARLES – John (Csokai) Charles, beloved husband of Betty Charles of Brooks, Alberta died July 1, 1991 in the Brooks Health Center following a lengthy illness.

John was born in Hungary on January 26, 1912, the eldest of seven children, four girls and three boys. All the brothers and three sisters are still living there. One sister, Julie Toth lives in Comox, B.C. with her daugther Agnes(Doug) Sabo.

John came to Canada when he was 17 to join his father George Csokai, who had been in Canada for a few years. He was predeceased by his mother in 1928, and his father in 1974.

John married Betty David in September 1939, and they have two children, a son Russell born in 1940 and a daughter Patricia in 1942.

Russ now lives in Chemainus, B.C. with his wife Hazel (Van Oene), and they have two children attending university in Edmonton, Laurie, 22 and Russell 20.

Patricia lives in Whitehorse, Yukon with her husband Graham Stockley and son Gerry, 18 and son Alan and his wife Jocelyn in Elk Point, and daughter Tracy in Edmonton.

John and Betty had a farm near Tilley for a few years and then moved into Tilley, where their children were educated. John was employed the the E.I.D. for several years until he and Russ started their own land levelling business in 1960.

Following his retirement, John had lived in Brooks. Memorial services are to be held Thursday, July 4 at 2:00 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home. Honorary pallbear­ ers are Wilson (Tiny) and Rose David, William and Margaret Tell, Ernie and Irene Kertesz, George and Janice Koza, Floyd and Edith Paschke, Andy and Dina Barath, Alan and Sheila Tiegs and Steve and Marie Kipta.

If friends desire, donations may be made to the Brooks Health Center Palliative Care Unit.
