CHARLTON — Thomas William  Charlton passed away peacefully  with his family at his side on April  23rd, 2002 in Medicine Hat at the  age of 87 years. Tom was born in  Brooks on November 29th, 1914 and  resided in Millicent all his life. He  took over the family store in 1928  which he operated as Uncle Tom’s  Cabin for the next 71 years. He was  always very proud that his store was  open every day of the year except  Christmas. His children are very  grateful for Tom’s unconditional love  and support over the years. He will  be remembered for his generosity to  the community, for his willingness to  express his opinion and for his great  pride in being a Canadian. Tom was  predeceased by his wife Laura on  March 23rd, 1991, daughter Judith Ann Charlton in 1949, granddaughter  Carmen Michelle Spooner in 1985, 3 brothers Hank in 1968, Frank in  1979 and George in 1999. Tom leaves to treasure his memory his children,  Charles (Shirley) Charlton and Charleen (Harold) Spooner all of Millicent  and Cameron (Bea) Charlton of Medicine Hat; 7 grandchildren; 12 great  grandchildren; 1 sister Winnifred Neely of Calgary, 1 brother Robert Charlton  of Calgary and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were  held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 26th from Duchess Mennonite Church.  Rev. Charles Ramer officiated. Honorary Pallbearers were Ernie Klassen,  John Ostafichuk, John Braconnier, John Fryberger, John Wipf, Len Rowe,  Don Berg, Lyman Davis, Ken McKnight, Ken Torkelson and Don Kondo.  Active Pallbearers were Dallis Charlton, TJ Charlton, Craig Charlton, Dionne  Spooner, Devin Spooner and Matthew Serfas. Interment followed at Brooks  Cemetery. In memory of Tom, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be  made to Brooks and District Health Foundation for Electric Beds, Bag  300, Brooks T1R 1B3; Medicine Hat and District Health Foundation for  Unit 2 Continuing Care, 666 — 5th Street SW, Medicine Hat T1A 4H6 or  charity of choice.
