Chelte, Arthur John & MaryCHELTE: Arthur John Chelte beloved husband of Mary, passed away in Brooks on October 17th, 1999 at the age of 89 years.

Art was born in Fairview, Montana on August 20th, 1910 and came to Canada with his parents in 1920. They settled in the One Tree District and a year later moved to Rainier. Art served with the Canadian Army during the Second World War. He was employed with Marshall Wells in Vancouver following his discharge and a short time later returned to Rainier to take over the family farm. Mary Prokupuk and Art where married in Rainier on March 16th, 1947. They moved to Scandia in 1959 and farmed there until coming to Brooks on April 15th, 1971. Art had worked for Co-op and later the County for several years until retiring. He was always very active in his communities. Art was involved with the Calf Club for many years and had served as Director with Bow Slope Shipping Association. He loved to curl and singing with the Prairie Warblers. Art will be remembered as gentle, happy, loving family man who always looked for the best in everyone.

He was predeceased by his parents Nick and Inga, his brother Carl and sister Olga Haaland.

Besides his loving wife Mary, he is survived by his son Norm of Scandia; grandchildren Robyn and Ryan and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22nd from Trinity Lutheran Church, Brooks. Pastor David Hicks of the Immanuel Bible Chapel, Brooks officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are all Art’s many friends. Active pallbearers are Arnold Roth, Fred Chikowski, Robyn Chelte, Ryan Chelte, Wayne Haaland and Bryce Haaland.

Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery.
