Chikoski, Steve Metro

CHIKOWSKI – Steve Metro Chikowski, beloved husband of Lettia Chikowski of Brooks, passed away in Brooks on March 15th, 1998 at the age of 92 years.

Born in Austria on January 9th, 1906 Steve came to Canada with his parents as an infant to Dauphin, Manitoba. He moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan in 1930 and worked in the community. Steve came to Rainier and farmed in the community until moving to Brooks in 1966. He married Lettia Prokopuk on November 30th, 1935. In Brooks he had worked in maintenance for the County of Newell until retiring in 1972. Music was Steve’s life – he played the fiddle as an young man for many dances. He was a avid curler and loved horseshoes. Steve will also be remembered as the neighbourhood handyman.

He was predeceased by his son Jerry on May 9th, 1992.

Besides his wife Lettia, Steve is survived by his loving children, daughters Mary Lou Jones and her husband Toby of Gordondale, Alberta, Joyce Helem and her husband Bob of Nanamio, B.C. and Eleanor McLeod and her husband Ken of Blackfalds, Alberta; son Fred and his wife Lorraine of High River, 16 grandchildren, numerous great­grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20th from Smith Memorial Chapel. Rev. George Edmonds officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are all Steve’s many friends. Active pallbearers are Norm Chelte, Allen Nielsen, Arnold Roth, Brad Chikowski, Steve Chikowski, Tyler Chikowski, Garrett Chikowski and Christy Chikowski.

Interment will follow at Brooks Cemetery.
