He was born at Valaska, Bela, Czechoslovakia and married there in 1921. He came to Canada on April 30. 1927 and resided in Manitoba and B.C. before coming to Tilley. He farmed there until retiring 10 years ago and continued to reside on the farm.
He was a member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Tilley.
He was predeceased by his wife Maria on June 3, 1981 and a son Steve on March 4, 1986.
Surviving are two sons John of Calgary and Alex of Tilley; two daughters Josephine Urban of Innisfail and Mary Telfer of Calgary; 15 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a sister Appolonia Chrumka of Prievidza, Czechoslovaka and numerous nieces and nephews.
Prayer service was held on Friday, April 4 at 8 p.m. in Smith Funeral Chapel and funeral mass was held on Saturday, April 5 in ST. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brooks with Father John Petravicius and Father John Kadelec celebrants. Interment followed in the Brooks Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were George Calpas, John Suchy, John Dunay, Martin Koza, George Timko Sr., and Joe Toth. Active pallbearers were Joseph Urban, Dan Urban, Anthony Chrurnka , Bob Chrumka, Brian Chrumka and Howard Calpas.
