Clary, Fredrick Lyle & Gladys Viola

Clary, Frederick Lyle & Gladys ViolaCLARY – Gladys Viola Clary, beloved wife for 57 years of Lyle Clary of Brooks,  passed away in Calgary on October 19th, 1998 at the age of 82 years.

Born in Cabri, Saskatchewan on April 26th, 1916 Gladys was the ninth of 12 children of Richard and Carrie Felt. She was raised on the family farm near Battrum, Saskatchewan. She attended the  Mistletoe School where she excelled in literature, Gladys continued to recite poetry throughout her life that she had learned as a child. Gladys and Frederick Lyle Clary were married on October 4th, 1941 in Empress and settled in Battrum. They moved to Welling, Alberta in 1949 and to Tilley in 1950 where they resided until moving to Brooks to the Newbrook Lodge in 1996. Gladys had worked part time at the Tilley Post Office and had been very active in the community. Among many things she volunteered at the Tilley Library, did the bookings for the Tilley Hall for many years and had served several terms on the Board of Elders of the Tilley United Church. She loved baking, Sunday dinners and watching baseball. She will be remembered for the love she had for her family and especially her grandchildren, for her dignity, her humor and her sense of adventure.

She was predeceased by a son-in-law Eugene Zelmer in 1973 and by her 11 brothers and sisters.  Gladys is also survived by her children Jeanette Button and her husband Donald of Tilley and their children Corrine Burton of Brooks, Lynda (Ryan) Wilkinson of Taber and Scott Burton of Tilley; Loretta Zelmer of Brooks and her daughter Faun (Brad) Willsey of Edmonton; Warren Clary and his wife Linda of Nelson, B.C.; Joyce Leuck and her husband John of Provost and their children John Jr. (Lynda) of Coronation and their son Zeke, Victoria Leuck of Brooks and Richard Leuck of Red Deer; brother-in-  law Wally Grams of Calgary and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held at 2:00- p.m. on Friday, October 23rd from the Brooks United Church. Rev. George Edmonds officiating.

Pallbearers were her grandsons.
