He was born at Riverhead, St. Mary’s Bay, Newfoundland and moved to central Canada in the late 1940s. He came west in 1951 and resided in the Sedalia – Oyen areas.
He was a member of the Oyen Knights of Columbus, the fire department, the separate school board, Kinsmen Club and K40s.
He moved to Brooks in September, 1979 and had been employed with Nova an Alberta Corporation.
He was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing and coached both hockey and ball.
He was predeceased by two infant daughters and his father.
Surviving are his wife Irene of Brooks, his daughter Linda Tanigami and her husband Gary of Brooks; two sons, Wayne and his wife Laura of Calgary and Doug and his wife Virginia of Brooks; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Mark, Jodi, Jessica and Susan, his mother Mrs. Annie Corcoran of Nfld., three sisters, Bridget Corcoran, Gladys Hickey and Clara Stevens, five brothers, Leo, Eugene all of Nfld, Denis of Montreal, Ben of Winnipeg and Fred of Edmonton and numerous nieces and nephews.
Prayer service was held on Sunday, May 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Smith’s Memorial Chapel in Brooks and Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, May 7 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brooks with the Reverend Father John Petravicius celebrant. Interment followed in the Brooks Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial tributes be made to the ALS Society, St. Mary’s Catholic Church Memorial Fund or the charity of your choice.
Honorary pallbearers were John Volk, Estler Logan and Glenn Kenny. Active pallbearers were Ron Wagener, Mark Wagener, Tony Corcoran, Doug Corcoran, Wayne Corcoran and Gary Tanigami.

CORCORAN — Irene Mary Corcoran of Brooks passed away in Calgary on August 27th, 2000 at the age of 68 years.
Born in Riverhead, St. Mary’s Bay, Newfoundland on December 4th, 1931 Irene moved to the Oyen area in 1953. She married Cyril Corcoran on April 7th, 1953 in Newfoundland and resided in Oyen and later moved to Brooks in 1979 where she has resided since. Irene loved her family and found special joy spending time with her grandchildren and great granddaughter. She will be remembered by her many nieces and nephews for making them feel warm and welcome in her home. Irene’s hospitality will be missed by her friends and family.
She was predeceased by her husband Cyril on May 4th, 1990, 2 infant daughters, brother Dave Delurey and brother – in-law Fred Corcoran.
Irene is survived by her loving family, daughter Linda Tanigami and her husband Gary and their son Mark and daughter Jodi all of Brooks; son Wayne and his wife Debra and their son Steven and daughters Jennifer and Michelle and their grand- daughter Alexis all of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; son Doug and his wife Virginia and their daughters Susan and Jessica all of Brooks; 3 sisters Anita Corcoran and her husband Leo, Anne Keating and her husband Pat and Molly Abbott and her husband Bill; 3 brothers Jim and his wife Mary, Joe and his wife Joan and Harold and his wife Anita all of Newfoundland; sister-in-law Barb Delurey of Calgary; 3 great aunts Mary Bourgeous of Kitchener, Ontario, Sister Mary Phillipa Fleddy and Sister Mary Clarissa Reddy both of Newfoundland and numerous nieces and nephews.
Prayer services will be held today, Wednesday, August 30th at 8:30 PM from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Mass services will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 31st from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rev. Bryan Frank Celebrant. Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery.
