de RAAF – Adrianus de Raaf died in the Brooks Health Centre on December 4, 1985 at the age of 80 years.
He was born at De Lier , Netherlands and married Klaziena Vink on February 24, 1926. and moved to Naaldwyk, Netherlands. He worked in market gardens for several years and spent some years building greenhouses. He later had his own business in marketing fruits and vegetables which was his pride and joy.
He came to Canada in 1952 and worked on a farm in Countess and came to Brooks in 1954 and was employed as a custodian for the Brooks School District. He retired to Mirror. Alberta in 1973 and returned to Brooks in 1976 where he has resided since.
He was predeceased by a son Ian in the Netherlands in 1946; a daughter Willa in Lacombe in 1985 and two sisters and two brother in the Netherlands.
Surviving are his wife Klaziena of Brooks; two daughters. Ann Van Nieuwkerk and her husband Leen of Mirror, Maartje and Hank Nieuwkerk of Tiiley; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four brothers in the Netherlands: one brother in Ontario and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held in the Evangelical Free Church in Brooks on Saturday. December 7 at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Tim Klassen and the Reverend Bob Warrington officiating. Interment followed in the Brooks Cemetery.
Pallbearers were his grandsons Dick Van Nieuwkerk, Art Van Nieuwkerk, Adrian Van Nieuwkerk, John Van Nieuwkerk , Leen Van Nieuwkerk. and Dick Van Nieuwkerk.
