She was born on November 26, 1950, eldest daughter of Matt and Eva Yoner of Estevan, Sask.
She received her public schooling at Outram and attended high school at Torquay and was chosen valedictorian of her Grade Twelve class.
Annabelle married Vern Haakonson on September 27,1969 at Estevan and their first home was at Swan Hills, Alberta. They came to Brooks in April, 1970 where she had resided since. She was a devoted member of St.
Mary’s Catholic Church and a dedicated choir member. For the past seven years she had been a teacher’s assistant at the Brooks Primary School, was also treasurer of Brooks Minor Hockey for two years and was a ardent fan of community sports, especially ones that her children participated in. With a smile on her face, she touched the hearts of many children.
She was predeceased by her mother, Eva Yoner in 1970 and a brother, Michael in 1975.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Vern, son Ryan and daughter Leanne and Leanne’s special friend, Ron Schmid, her father and stepmother, Matt and Madge Yoner Of Estevan, Sask., three brothers, Jerome (Diane), Raphael (Daylene) all of Estevan, Richard (Louise) of Leduc, AB., sister Florence (Walter) Matthies of Regina, Sask., as well as many other relatives and friends.
Prayer services were held on Monday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. and funeral mass was held on Tuesday, April 28 at 1 :30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Keith Sorge celebrant. Linda Nielsen, close friend provided the eulogy. Interment followed in the Brooks Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were Bill and Gloria Aitken, Lee and Daphne Anderson, Murray and Sharon Hauck, Gordon and May Matson, Andy and Greta Barath and Charlie Johnson. Active pallbearers were her nephews, Troy Yoner, Roy Fersch, Dale Hawkins, Cory Yoner, Darryl Haakonson and Gary Hawkins.
