He was born at Lacombe, Alberta on July 31, 1953 and moved with his family to Munson in the fall of the same year. They moved to Dewar Lake, Saskatchewn in 1955 where he began his school and moved again to Olds in 1963 where he completed his schooling.
He married the former Lauren Mann in Regina on November 15, 1975, moved to Cessford in 1983 and to Pollockville in 1985 where he has resided since.
He had been employed with Amoco Canada as a battery operator since 1983.
Roy was an avid pool player, golfer and all around outdoors man and was very involved with the community. He was a member of the Flatlands Firearms and Wildlife, the Pollockville Community Club and Curling Club and the EID Legion in Brooks.
Besides his loving wife he is survived by a daughter Delaina Haakonson of Pollockville, his parents Mel and Mil Haakonson of Olds; one sister Muriel and her husband Roger Hawkins of Hoosier, Saskatchewan; two brothers, Larry and his wife Eve of Didsbury, and Vern and his wife Annabelle of Brooks; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and in-laws Warren Mann of Regina, Marybeth Alston and Jennifer Mann both of Regina, Howard and Carol Mann of Calgary and Rob and Margo Desmarais of Regina.
Funeral service was held on Friday, April 19 at 2 p.m. in the Brooks United Church with Pastor Alvin Oberhammer officiating and interment followed in the Brooks Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim Solberg, Lorne Lund, Danny Mickler, Joe Stewart, Dale Hawkins and Mark Fillip.
