HANSEN – Sophie Amelia Hansen a pioneer resident of the Clancy district died in Brooks, Alberta on June 15, 1990 at the age of 97 years.
She was born at Effingham, Kansas, U.S.A. on September 30,1892. All of her younger years were spent in that area until her marriage to John Hansen in 1916. They came directly to Canada on their honeymoon and settled in the Clancy district. In 1969 they sold their farm and retired to Brooks. Sophie moved to the Villa in 1978, to Newbrook Lodge in 1983 and to the ‘Brooks Auxiliary Hospital in Oct. 1989.
She was a member of the Clancy ladies Club and a life member of the Lutheran Church.
She was predeceased by her son Harold in 1945, killed in action overseas, her husband John in 1973 and her daughter Alice Husband in 1981.
Surviving are three daughters, Marie (George) Hoadley of Parksville, B.C., Gladys (Bob) Boyden of St. Albert, Alta.and Shirley (Fred) Gardner of Duchess, five sons, John Jr. of Condor, Alta., Ralph (Edna) of Brooks, Bill (Ruth) of Hays, Alta, , Bob (Gerry) Sedgewick, Alta. and Gordon (Ethel) of Brooks, 26 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was be held on Wednesday, June 20, at 2 p.m. at Smith Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Ken Grambo officiating. Interment followed in the Brooks Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Ken Hansen, Carl Hansen, Wayne Hansen, George Hoadley, Brad Gardner and Dale Hyrve.
