HAUGEN: Ethel Katie Haugen died on March 18, 1987 in Edmonton, Alberta the age of 87 years.
She was born at Springfield, Minnesota, U.S.A. and came to Canada with her parents on May 8, 1906 to Strongfield, Saskatchewan.
She married Ole Haugen in 1919 and resided in the district and moved to Coderre, Saskatchewan in 1930 and was employed as a housekeeper. She moved to Rolling Hills in 1941, to Medicine Hat in 1951 and to Edmonton in May, 1983.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. E.I.D. Legion, an avid curler while at Rolling Hills and her special hobby was her handwork.
She was predeceased by her husband ,Ole and in later years by her beloved Bamey, also a son Wilbert, a daughter Wilma and her husband Joe Virostek, two grandsons, Deryl Virostek and Stuart Wenger.
Surviving are a daughter Margaret Wenger and her husband Spencer of Edmonton, a son Bill and his wife Kathleen of Pierceland, Sask., 14 grand children, 33 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, a sister Mildred Smith of Edmonton, a nephew Robert Stone of Vancouver, two nieces and a nephew in the U.S.A.
Funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 24 at 2 p.m. in Smith’s Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Yoline Conley officiating. Interment followed in the Brooks Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jack Shanks, Bill Shanks, Bob McTavish, Clarence Hawkins, Albert Hawkins and Harold Hawkins.
Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
