FERNER – Egnatz John Ferner, beloved husband and best friend of Hilda of Brooks, passed away suddenly in Brooks at the age of 67 years.
Born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan on June 27th, 1931 John and Hilda Loehndorf were married on June 7th, 1955 in Grosswerder, Saskatchewan residing in Major, Saskatchewan. They moved to Oyen in 1968 and to Brooks in 1976 and have resided here since. He was employed at the Co-op Grocery Store and in the oil patch until retiring in 1991. John loved his family, friends, gardening and yard work.
He was predeceased by his mother Margaret in 1959 and father Frank in 1977; brothers Joe in 1987, Peter in 1998 and Wilford in infancy; grandson Christopher Wenzel in 1986 and granddaughter Kristen Baxter in 1995.
Besides his loving wife Hilda, John is also survived by his children Mike and his wife Lori of Cochrane and their children Amanda (Kevin) and their son Steven Gardener, Jason and Chad; Anita Astell and her husband Ron of Lethbridge and their children Travis and Rosalyn; Randy and his wife Patty of Brooks; Margaret Peters and her husband Terry of Brooks and their children Lacey, Mitchell and Jill; Shirley Baxter and her husband Paul of Olds and their children Ryan (Candice), Misty and Cameron; Irvin and his wife Roxanne of Brooks and their children Alicia and Johnny; Carol Wenzel and her husband Lawrence of Rocky Mountain House and their children Cindy and Melissa; Terry of Brooks; sister Elaine Cummings of Calgary and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 17th from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Father Bryan Frank celebrant.
Honorary pallbearers were all of John’s grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Micheal, Randy, Irvin, Terry, Ryan and Jason Ferner.
Interment followed at Brooks Cemetery.
