FLAHR – David Peter Flahr of Brooks, Alberta died on August 25, 1991 at the age of 75 years.
He was born at Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S.A. and moved to Prince Albert. Sask. with his parents and a few years later moved to Luseland, Sask.
He married the former Barbara Schroh on November 7, 1939 in Luseland and farmed in the district until moving to town in 1950 where he operated a trucking and backhoe business.
He moved to Brooks in 1968 where he had resided since except for a year in Hanna from 1979 to 1980. Dave was involved in carpentry forming a partnership with Stan Meers (Brooks Builders) which they operated from May 1, 1969 to May 1, 1979. After dissolving their company he was employed by Pan Canadian as a janitor until retiring.
He was a member of the Elks Club and had served as Exalted Rule while in Luseland and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was predeceased by two daughters, Delores Margaretta and Colette Barbara.
Surviving are his wife Barbara of Brooks, six daughters, Dorothy (Lucien) Weinmeyer of Brooks, Marcella (Dave) Schommer, Handel, Sask., Theresia (Garry) Weinmeyer, Rebecca (Les) Prentice, Delores (Gordon) Wetzstein and Cynthia (Cindy) and her husband Randy Romans all of Duchess, Alberta; three sons, Dave of Kamloops, B.C., Daniel and his wife Virginia and Mark of Brooks; 32 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his brother Paul of Lumby, B.C. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Prayers will be held from Smith’s Memorial Chapel, Brooks, on Wednesday, August 28 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, August 29th, from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Brooks at 11 :00 a.m. with the Rev. Keith Sorge celebrant. Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers are Pat Childs, Alex Blatz, Tom Tomazeski, AI Ewen, John Neigum and Guy Fukuda. Active pallbearers are Shane Weinmeyer, Randy Preston, Warren Weinmeyer, Marcel Schommer, Terry Schommer and Jerome Schroh.
