Born in Breukelen, The Netherlands on October 6th, 1929 Jelle immigrated to Canada with his parents and brothers and sisters in 1948. He married Trudy Van Dorp in 1952 and together they farmed in the Tilley area until the time of his passing. They were blessed with five children and 21 grandchildren. Jelle considered it a great privilege to be a member of Christ’s church and it was his joy to serve his Lord in whatever way he was called upon. He will be remembered for his love of church music, singing God’s praises and his devotion to God’s Word. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints” Psalm 116: 15.
Jelle was predeceased by his parents Fred and Agnes and brothers Joe and Auke.
Besides his loving wife Trudy, he is survived by his children Ellen (Calvin) Tuininga of St. Catharines, Ontario and their children Eric, Janine, Carla, Matthew, and Elyssa; Fred (Margaret) Folkerts of Winnipeg and their children James, Christopher, Jennifer, Frederick, Daniel and Michael; Geraldine (Albert) Attema of Edmonton and their children Trudi, David, Peter and Jason; Annette (Richard) Lieuwen of Lethbridge and their children Monique, Erica, Joelle and Kimberly; Arthur (Mary) Folkerts of Tilley and their children Micah and Brennan; brothers John, Otto, Klaas and Fred; sisters Winnie, Gep, Helen and Agnes as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 :00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19th from the Brooks Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Jake Covers officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are Evert and Jenny Borkent. Active pallbearers are Fred, Arthur and James Folkerts, Albert Attema, Calvin Tuininga and Richard Lieuwen.
Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery.
