FRIESEN – Katharina (Kay) Friesen passed away suddenly at the Brooks Health Centre on Monday, June 15, 1992 at the age of 77 years, beloved wife of David Friesen, of Brooks.
Kay was born October 19, 1914 in Alexanderof, Russia, Katharina C. Hiebert. She came to Canada as a young girl to Rosthern, Sask., in 1923, and later married David Friesen, in Speers, Sask. on July 15, 1935. They resided at Maymont, Saskatchewan, until moving to Saskatoon, and then on to Cultus Lake, and Chilliwack, B.C. From there the family moved to the Rosemary, Millicent, and Tilley areas, before moving to Brooks, in 1966.
Kay was an avid gardener, a great cook, enthusiastic sports and bingo fan and was keenly interested in the wellbeing of her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Justina, and Cornelius Hiebert.
She also leaves to cherish her memory five sons, Edgar (Sybil) Friesen of Penticton, B.C., Donald (Sharon) Friesen, of Brooks, Verne (Pietie) Friesen, of Cochrane, Kenneth (Beverly) Friesen of Calgary, Harvey (Linda) Friesen, of Duncan, B.C., and two daughters Sylvia (Randy) Bonds, of Winnipeg, Man., Patricia (Roy) Sihvon, of Calgary, seven granddaughters, eight grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
She also leaves to mourn four brothers; Cornie (Kay) Hiebert, Ben (Ruby) Hiebert, Jack (Joyce) Hiebert, George (Olive) Hiebert, one sister; Helen (Fred) RedeIback, numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Funeral service was held on Thursday, June 18 at 2 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church with the Reverend Ken Grambo officiating. Interment followed in the Brooks Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Monte Friesen, Mitchell Friesen, Michael Friesen, Steven Friesen, Jason Friesen and Donald Hiebert.
