Gartz, Ben

GARTZ: Ben Gartz of Brooks, Alberta died on July 27, 1987 in the Calgary General Hospital at the age of 56 years.

He was born at Herbert, Saskatchewan and received his schooling in the Rush Lake district of Saskatchewan. He moved to Oak Lake, Manitoba with his family farming there until moving to Brandon where he was involved in family businesses.

He married the former Evelyn Honke on October 10, 1964 at Seven Sister Falls, Manitoba and came to Brooks in 1979 operating the Dairy Queen and Taco Time In partnership with his wife and son.

He was very active in Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was predeceased by his father in 1954, his mother in 1968, a brother Arthur in 1924 and a sister Ida in 1973.

Surviving are his wife Evelyn, a son Wilfred and his fiancee Rhonda all of Brooks and aunts. uncles and cousins.

Funeral service was held on Friday, July 31 at 2 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church with the Reverend Ken Grambo officiating assisted by Vicar Steele Pruden. Interment followed in the Brooks Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were Vern Gausman. Dean Hendricksen, Garnet Altwasser and Wally Wells. Active pallbearers were Rudolf Gartz, Clarence Gabrielle, Lawrence Honke, Larry Latta and Curtis Honke.
