Gausman, Vernon LeRoy

GAUSMAN – Vernon Leroy (Vern) Gausman of Brooks, Alberta died in the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on April 30, 1991 at the age of 69 years.

He was born at Nebraska and move with his family in 1926 to Melfort Saskatchewan and later moved to the Pleasantdale district of Saskatchewan.

He married the former Connie Mills on November 17, 1947 at Spalding, Saskatchewan and moved to Rainier, Alberta shortly after. He drove a school bus and did janitorial work at the school and moved to Brooks in November, 1951. He was employed at Galbraith Cleaners, drove a school bus and later worked for Marshall Wells and in 1960 opened a laundromat and drycleaning plant which operated until getting involved with real estate in 1973. He retired due to illness
in 1987.

He was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church and very active in the church, was also a charter member of the Brooks Rotary Club as well as being very active in minor hockey and the Brooks Blackhawks.

Surviving are his wife Connie of Brooks, two sons, Nolan (Shelly) of Brooks and Randy and his fiancee Lisa Mawer of Brooks, three grandchildren, Laura, Stephen and Meghan, a sister, Velma Harris of Nipawin, Sask., a brother Orville of Seattle, Wash., brothers and sisters-in­ law and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held on Friday, May 3 at 2 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church with the Reverend Ken Grambo officiating. Interment followed in the Brooks
Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were Don Crerar, Eileen Swenson, Glen and Louise Berg, Dan and Rose Lovsin, Don and Elsie Grosfield, Lou and Doreen Nester, Sam and Agnes Meier and Wilson and Eleanor Trotter. Active pallbearers were Glen Harris, Gilbert Alchin, Frank Klatik, Frank Scott, Lowell Johnson and Garth Johnson.
