Gellings, Peter & MaryGELLINGS – One of the first settlers in the Rosemary district after it was opened to irrigation, Peter Aleck Gellings died May 12, 1976 in Newell Nursing Home. He was 87.

Born in Charlesburg, Wis­consin, he was married in Idaho Falls in 1913, and the Gellings came from Idaho in 1919 to Rosemary where they farmed until 1950, when he retired to Brooks. He has resided here since.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Gellings of Brooks two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Aga­tha) McClelland, Brooks and Mrs. Noel (Frances) Benoit, Vegreville, Alta.; three sons, Richard of Bear Canyon,

Alta., Bernard (Bernie) of Brooks and Leo of Vermilion; 21 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one broth­er, William Gellings of San Diego, Calif.

Prayer service was held Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in Smith Memorial Chapel and funeral service was held in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Brooks, by the Rev. F.R. Mongeau on Monday, May 17 at 10:30 a.m.

Interment was in Brooks cemetery. If friends desire, donations’ may be made to Newell Nursing Home or the Alberta Heart Fund.

Pallbearers were Robert McClelland, James McClel­land, Leo, Brian, Bernie and Lanp Gellings.

GELLINGS: Mary Agnes Gellings of Brooks, Alberta died on August 1, 1990 at the age of 94 years.

She was born on December 8,1895 at Morris, Wisconsin, U.S.A. and moved with her family to Roberts, Idaho in 1905.

In 1913 she married Peter Gellings and they bought a farm seven miles south of Idaho Falls, Idaho. On March 27, 1919 the Gellings family immigrated to Canada settling in the Rosemary district where they farmed until selling the farm to retire to Brooks in 1950.

She was predeceased by her husband Peter in 1976 at the age of 87 years.

Surviving are three sons and two daughters, Agatha McClelland and her husband Bob of Brooks, Richard Gellings and his wife Lois of Dawson Creek, B.C., Bernard Gellings of Brooks, Frances Benoit and her husband Noel of Vegreville, Leo Gellings and his wife Kathy of Lac La Biche, two sisters, Catherine Shilling and Eva Boyd of Forest Grove, Oregon, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and three great-great­grandchildren.

Prayer service was held on Friday, August 3 at 7 p.m. at Smith Memorial Chapel and funeral mass was held on Saturday, August 4 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Keith Sorge celebrant. Interment followed in Brooks Cemetery.

Pallbearers were James McClelland, Anthony Gellings, Lane Gellings, Brian Gellings, Bernard Benoit and Duane Speir.
